In the beginning was Allah?

(Tim) In Malaysia, churches are being burned and Christians attacked in the aftermath of a high court ruling recently issued that ended a three year ban on religions other than Islam using the name of Islam's god, "Allah," as their own. Pious Muslims are suspicious this renaming of the Trinitarian God of Christianity is really a sneaky form of evangelism: "Some Muslim groups fear that Christians want to use the word 'Allah' as

part of a plan to encourage Muslims to convert to Christianity."

In studying modern missions to Islamic communities, I've had the same thoughts and wondered if such a practice is wise, or even Biblical? It seems to me one thing for the Apostle John explicitly to claim the Greeks' "logos" was really Jesus Christ, but another thing entirely for the whole Gospel of John to repudiate any other name for god than "logos."
