(Tim) Six Flags, the owner of our nation's largest amusement parks with Bill Gates one of its major stockholders, has filed for bankruptcy. Undoubtedly, our non-federal government will take immediate action to nationalize this national treasure, assuring that our entertainment stupor will continue to serve as the foundation of our pliability and compliance.
As long as Cedar Point and Kennywood Park are safe, then we're fine! Six Flags always did have a generic feel....

Bread and circuses, baby; bread and circuses! All we need is a little government love.

Can I just say I am sooooooooooo happy that Ken, someone I don't know, mentioned Kennywood? You rock, Ken. I grew up going to that park and I will be devastated if it ever closes down in my lifetime. Now, I look forward to taking my son to Kennywood as well. Cedar Point is pretty rockin' too. Don't care much about Six Flags or GM for that matter.

My wife is a Pittsburgher, and though we live in Jackson, MS, we pretty much make it there every summer.

Well, does anyone remember Opreyland? My dad took us there in like '78 - it closed my first year living in Nashville around 1992.

Clint,
Opryland didn't close until the end of 1997, actually. I miss it!

Yup, Clint. Went there growing up in Nashville pretty frequently one summer. Still miss the Wabash Cannonball...

Opreyland must have been dramatically reduced in size in 1992-95 then. I remember them closing most of the roller coasters and turning huge sections of the park into parking lots for Opreland Hotel or something. I seem to remember the music shows were the last to go.
Archie, do you remember?

Clint, the last time I went to Opryland was probably in the summer of 1996, and my memory is that all of the rides were still in operation at that time. Certainly the Wabash Cannonball, Chaos, and The Hangman, which I don't believe even opened until sometime around that summer.
