Thank you, Judy. This is excellent, and helpful to me.

Thanks, Tim. This is good. I will pass it on to my friend. :-)

I'm reading this in bits and pieces because there is so much wisdom here I find myself wanting to savor it.

"Therefore, I consider God’s commands as a means to FREE me from certain burdens."

This is so very true. I cannot adequately express in words the relief, release of a heavy, heavy burden I felt when I gave up the battle and finally embraced God's vision for women -- not my own desires, but God's "oppressive" and "restrictive" commands. There is so much freedom, so much liberty -- even the liberty to give up a marvelous privielege, if that is what is required. I don't *have* to because I know who defends me.

"Enjoy" the comments. Maybe(/not?) this will be of interest to see modern "evangelical" (or other?) attitudes.

John,

Yawn.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here can PROVE, from 1 Timothy 2 passage, that Paul prohibited women in general from teaching men. Can someone here prove that Paul stopped more than 1 specific woman from teaching 1 man? There must be someone here who can do this? I'm interested in the facts and the proof, that's it. Thank you. I thought, this would be on topic. :)

Dear Kathy,

No, no one can prove to you that Scripture is the Word of God, and true. Really, that's what you're asking. Why?

Because the text you cite is so clear, so straightforward in stating what God prohibits, grounding it in God's actions in the order He created Adam and Eve, that it is impossible to miss.

So if you're reading the text and then asking if woman is allowed to teach and exercise authority over man, your problem isn't the text and its meaning, but submission to the God Whose Holy Spirit inspired it.

For more on this, read the "Feminism" category, please.

Sincerely,

As a blue-collar man, and a macho one at that, I can say that taking on more burdens (aspiring to more) in life than God requires/expects is something that plagues many Christian men--and has been a lifelong challenge for me. I once heard a wise pastor's wife say, "Women are responders." Could it be that the women of our culture and in our churches are merely echoing the sentiments of their husbands, fathers and other men in their lives? Oh, and then there is the default button from the time of Adam's fall which likes to delegate too many responsibilities to the ladies.

Dear Tim,

You'd have to prove that I do not believe that Scripture is the Word of God. I do believe it is. I believe it is inspired and authoritative. What proof do you have to your claim?

The text I site is clear in what is written, and Paul did not write about "women" in the passage. Therefore I was hoping you could Prove your belief that Paul is speaking of women (plural) not teaching men. The Holy Spirit inspired the text, word-for-word, down to the grammar, which are all things impossible to miss.

I'm not asking if women are allowed to teach men, I'm asking for proof from the text and context itself that it actualy says and means what you claim it does. I'm talking about the facts, evidence and proof, nothing less. Sorry, I like those things...

Thanks for directing me to the "Feminism" category... will you give me the Proof I request, please?

And thank you for the reply.

Kathy

Dear Kathy,

No, I will not give you the proof you request. We have the text of God's Word, the unanimous witness and practice of the church across 2,000 years of church history condemning your heresy, and you want us to start all over again, taking you as sincerely misled?

No, you are not confused--any more than the text is obscure. This is a matter of your will and obedience to the Holy God Who made Adam first, and then Eve; and Who, in the plainest terms possible, demonstrated all through Scripture that the significance of His Order of Creation is that woman is not to teach or exercise authority over man.

You learn raising children that protests of the lack of clarity in parental direction and commands often serves as a cover for rebellion. And though it's much easier to determine with your children than a reader of one's blog, the determination is no less necessary, here, as in my home.

I often point out to good souls that, had God wanted to make things clearer to us concerning the meaning and purpose of sexuality, it would have been impossible to improve upon what He's already given us.

But you know the old saying: "there's no one so blind as the man who refuses to see." Hence our Lord's constant refrain, "He who has ears to hear..."

Repent of your rebellion, dear woman, and delight in the pure milk of God's Word. You'll find it sweeter than honey.

In God's mercy,
