(Tim) From my incomparable tutor in all things political for over thirty years, Joe Sobran, I learned of the existence of the Tenth Amendment, but also of its impotence in the hands of the crooks who have served on the U.S. Supreme Court in recent decades. Also from Sobran, I picked up the habit of never, ever, ever referring to "the United States," but always and only "these United States."
The past few years, Church of the Good Shepherd has had an influx of Texans who move here for a few years to complete their doctorates at IU. Most of them plan to return to the motherland so, half-seriously, I've told them of my wish that Texas would secede so I could move there...
But, I told them, I'd only do it if from the very beginning their civil compact defended their unborn children from slaughter.
Well, although the motivation doesn't at all seem connected to anyone's concern over the slaughter of unborn children, there's some apparent movement against the oppression of Washington D.C. down in the Lone Star State based upon that invisible part of the U.S. Constitution unknown as the Tenth Amendment.
My heart started beating faster as I watched Governor Perry's press conference announcing his support of the shot Texas appears ready to fire across Washington's bow, warning our public masters there not to mess with her sovereignty guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment.
Yippee, ki-yay!
