(Tim) We've all noticed the problems around here, lately. Comments have been pulled by the spam filter and I've tried my best to assure those hitting this wall that it's nothing personal. If it helps, comfort yourselves that this past week I myself had a comment rejected by the spam filter--and this, I believe, while I was signed in as one of the two blog owners!
But there have been other things, too...
For instance, in its latest version of TypePad (the software we rent for this blog), Six Apart initiated a new fifty comment limit for each page of comments. That was irritating enough, but even more irritating was my utter frustration trying to change the text at the bottom of 50-plus comment pages indicating how to click through to the next page of comments. If you look at a 50-plus page now, you'll see I've finally managed to change some of the text, but it's very ugly and I'm not working on it any more. I've spent too much time on it, already.
Finally, for about two weeks we had a nasty glitch that showed up right above the comment submission box. It was two spinning cursors with a bunch of other gibberish text. No one could figure out how to get rid of it and multiple help tickets to Six Apart submitted over a period of days got no response. Six Apart appears to be dead in the water when it comes to providing support for their users--and this at $150 per year! (There's absolutely no way to communicate with them except to submit help tickets.)
Finally, son-in-law, Ben Crum, figured out--not how to fix the problem, but how to hide it. So, it's been an exasperating couple of weeks and I thank you for your patience. Looks like we'll be getting a new design as it seems likely that will be the only way to fix some of these problems permanently.
