(Tim, w/thanks to Jake) As longtime readers know, the Baylys are pro-adoption and have already welcomed one non blood-related son into our family. His name is Henock Josiah Ummel; he's the third of four children given by our Heavenly Father to Doug and Heather Ummel (Heather's our eldest); and he's from Ethiopia. (Sorry all the pics are missing on that link)...
Lord willing, we're on the verge of welcoming another Ethiopian
child or two into our family as Joseph and Heidi Bayly (Joseph is our
second) work to raise the money and finalize all the details of their
much-anticipated adoption, also from Ethiopia.
They'd like to adopt two children at the
same time, but it's not yet clear whether they'll be able to do so. If
you're interested in helping Joseph and Heidi with the expense of their
adoption, you can go here
to their web site and get in touch with them. And if anyone reading
this blog has frequent flier miles out the wazoo and is willing to
donate them, that would be a real help saving Joseph and Heidi much
money they'd otherwise spend traveling to Ethiopia.
Speaking of which, here are two excellent articles on adoption. The first, by Russell Moore, appears on the web site of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary's Henry Institute and is titled, "Transracial Adoption, the Gospel, and You." The second, "The Brotherhood of Sons: What Some Rude Questions About Adoption Taught Me About the Gospel of Christ," is also by Russell Moore and appeared a while ago in Touchstone magazine.
Moore is excellent.
