Another post on Gary Gygax and D&D...
(Tim) An excellent post on Gary Gygax and D&D by Pastor Travis Hutchinson. The post makes good applications to the copy-cat nature of what passes today for Christian imagination; also to the inhospitality of our church youth groups.

Thanks for this great post. I never knew Gygax, but I've heard good things about him. I know that as a teen the gaming group I was a part of was in some ways more welcoming and helpful to my overall development than the church groups I knew. Gaming has some attendant temptations that that can be dangerous (obsessiveness, disconnection from reality, overemphasis on darkness and violence), but it can also be a great way to explore heroism, improve math skills, and build solid friendships. I think it's unfortunate that some in the church see it as an evil stain instead of a tool to build relationships and have fun.

(actually, I meant to post this comment on the *last* post about Gary Gygax, but this post was a good one, too. :)
