Been there, not done that...
(Tim) Nothing in all the earth like Victoria Falls. When Michal, Annie, and I went there with the David Wegener family, none of us knew about this. Had we, Michal and I would have jumped, for sure! Three hundred foot dropoff two feet behind these men. Now that's bonkers, for sure!
Dear Tim:
Some of us did know.
But we assumed that the rest were possessed of reasonable intelligence and a desire to see their children's children.
I stand corrected. :)

Reading posts like this makes me very happy that I'm not a Bayly or related to one. You see, I'd be that relative that sits in the car muttering to himself about how crazy his family is while the rest go do something life endangering. Swimming that close to the falls doesn't at all seem like fun to me. My heart started racing just thinking about it.
I don't think Tim's ever mentioned the time that he and Joseph (along with a scared Lucas Weeks) went mudding on a mountainside. Or something like that. At any rate, they came near death many times.

David W,
You strike me as being relatively sane - relative to . . .

I normally would be all about supporting people doing fun yet ridiculous things that possibly endanger their lives, yet this one goes a bit far. I , like Brandon, saw the falls and my heart started racing. Perhaps you guys should just stick to jumping in the quarries. (and should you decide do that, please call me, and I will join you.)

If you know anything at all about waterfall hydraulics, it's not the fall that will kill you, but the massive weight of the water that churns down the bottom that will kill you - it literally cycles you in one or two directions depending on where you fall, and there's no way to tell until you get there.
That's radically different than jumping into still water.
It's like facing the Jaws waves of Hawaii and thinking you can swim through them without going for the bottom!

Chris, although it's certainly true that the currents of the Canadian side of Niagara Falls have killed more than one adventurer, I dare suggest as well that one could quite well die, say, from landing on the rocks at the bottom, or simply from the impact (even on water) from a 600 foot fall. No?
Me, I agree with what Archie said.
