Tomorrow--Tuesday, February 19th, at 7 p.m. Church of the Good Shepherd is hosting a concert featuring Matthew Smith & Indelible Grace. And our very own Good Shepherd Band has the honor of sharing the stage with them. Please join us for a great evening of music done to the glory of God.
The music of Indelible Grace has been a blessing to our own church as it has to many other churches around the country. We regularly use several of their songs during Sunday morning worship...
Indelible Grace is less a band and more a consortium of Christian singer-songwriters who have given themselves to revitalizing centuries-old hymns sung by Christians across the ages. They have a vision for bringing truth-laden ancient texts out of obscurity and breathing new life into them. This is how they describe their work:
We want to be a voice calling our generation back to something rich and solid and beyond the fluff and the trendy.
We want to remind God's people that thinking and worship are not mutually exclusive, and that not everything worth knowing happened in the last three years. We want to invite the Church to appreciate her heritage without idolizing it. We want to open up a world of passion and truth and make it more than just an archaic curiosity for the religiously sentimental. We believe worship is formative, and that it does matter what we think... Our hope is to help the church recover the tradition of putting old hymns to new music for each generation, and to enrich our worship with a huge view of God and His indelible grace.
With a sound often compared to Nickel Creek, Indelible Grace projects feature the work of artists like Derek Webb, Dan Haseltine (Jars of Clay), Andrew Osenga (Caedmon's Call), and Sandra McCracken. Indelible Grace songs are featured on albums by Caedmon's Call (In the Company of Angels, In the Company of Angels II) and Jars of Clay (Redemption Songs).
Matthew Smith, a singer-songwriter from East Nashville and founding member of Indelible Grace, has been touring the country playing at churches and conferences for the past several years, and is leading the current tour. Together with the Good Shepherd Band, this concert is something you don't want to miss.
