An invitation to join Church of the Good Shepherd...
Daily I praise God for the church Mary Lee and I are privileged, with our children, to have for our spiritual home. Last weekend, we had a men's retreat and our youngest, Taylor, came along. There he is, sitting with Alex Bristol, David Canfield, Lawrence Howell, and Steve Traeger's shoulder. Later in the day, we played basketball, and ultimate frisbee. Click through to the next page and you'll see they're both serious business to us.
Sunday afternoons following Home Fellowship Groups, forty of us or so gather at Olcott Park and play soccer until it's too dark to see. It's wonderful--boys and girls, old and young, all having fun together. And finally, a picture of our Easter Sunrise service in our new church building. (Thanks, Colin Hobbs, for serving as our church photographer. Excellent job!)
If you don't have a church home, come and join us. You'd move for a job. Why not for a church? We're always making a place for new members of the family, young and old, single and married, patriarchal and egalitarian, Reformed and Arminian, credo and paedo, highbrow and lowbrow--all are welcome, as long as you recognize that your officers will be boringly biblical on all doctrinal matters, having subscribed to the Westminster Standards.
Of course, David might argue you should move to Toledo, instead. Keep in mind, though, that they're just starting their capital campaign, whereas ours is finis.

No sibling rivalry between you two, is there?
IOW, Tim, you seem to be advocating people take the easy way out by joining your church where the hard work of fundraising and building is done rather than joining the work that is just beginning at David's. Hmmmm?

Looks like a great time, the building of the church is coming together.
I have thought of retiring near Bloomington, it is between my sisters and my nieces home. about 2.5 hours each way.
A church would be a wonderful reason to chose an area. Will be praying about this in the next couple years, probably 5. How is the market for a ranch home with 2 bedrooms ?!!

Suzi,
Go to homefinder.org. You will be able to see all of Bloomington real estate.
We are currently moving to Bloomington to join this church.

I Corinthians 1:12-15: "Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13: Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
14: I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15: Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name."
Substitute the name Calvin for the name Paul, Apollos, or Cephas and it's still the same thing.

Or, we could even substitute the names Kenneth Copeland or Joyce Meyer, hmmm?
Kathryn, your inability or unwillingness (I cannot tell which it is) to actually engage any of your respondents on this blog expose the hypocrisy of your use of the Scriptures above.
May you reread Paul with fresh eyes!

Frankly I'll take Apollos anyday over those two enemies of the sheep.

Kathryn,
As someone who just recently moved to Bloomington in the past few months to be a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, as well as attend the Pastors College, I can assure you it's not about Paul or Tim or David or *place pastor's name here*. All of the elders of the church hold fast to God's Word and are unified under it. Tim make take the beating here and in our community, but all of the leaders help him bear this burden. Tim's not like a black sheep renegade, and the elders here, along with those who faithfully back his declarations on this blog, testify to this. I love Tim very much, but so do I also love Stephen (pastor) and Jeff (elder, either one). Aside from all this, Tim's post was about becoming a member of our church, which has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. With that testimony, I would also like to give hearty agreement to the extended invitation for those without a home to join us.
