Church of the Good Shepherd is in the middle of a building program. Early Tuesday morning, January 30th, this land was bare to the eye. The footers were in place but you couldn't see them. Then, only four days later, the walls were up! So I'm going to use this occasion to take a break from posting on the blog. My fellow elders and pastors have been pressing me to get some other writing done, so that's where I'm going to focus the keyboard the next few months. Please pray I'll use this time well.
At this point, the plan is to start the blog up again soon after the weekend beginning Friday, July 6, 2007, Lord willing. Why then?
Because that's the weekend Good Shepherd will host our Second Good Shepherd Reunion Weekend and dedicate our new church building. It's going to be a joyful time and we hope you'll plan your vacation so you can be here!
Friday and Saturday, there will be games for the young and old, good music, and fellowship around tables piled high with good food, including two fattened pigs barbecued on site.
What about children? Trust us and bring them all, babies through high school. We do children well since we have scores of them, ourselves.
Did I mention sports? Bring your soccer cleats and basketball shoes. There are at least ten soccer fields across the street, lots of hoops on the school playground next door, and we promise no one will be guilt-tripping you into not keeping score. If you have bad knees, the park also has a disc golf course. If you're into Frisbee golf, so are lots of us and there's sure to be an ultimate Frisbee game or two during the weekend.
We'll take a little time Saturday afternoon to introduce the principal, students, and teachers of our Reformed Evangelical Pastors College. Then we'll share Good Shepherd's long-range vision and church planting plans. Sunday we'll gather for worship and dedicate our new church building.
Those who come will be given a new CD of music by our congregations' musicians, and a new book I hope to have completed.
What about housing? Some church members will open their homes to guests. There are also a number of motels quite nearby. But if you're into camping, our new church building is on a 220-acre farm we own and we'll be set up for you to camp, if you'd like.
Over the years, many Good Shepherd graduates have received their degree from Indiana University and moved on. Many have written to tell us they plan to be here, and some have written to say the plan to be here for the weekend even though they've never been a part of Good Shepherd. So why don't you plan on coming, too?
If you're interested and want some more information, please send an E-mail to our church secretary, Heidi Bayly (Mrs.), at churchoffice at shepherdchurch dot com. Or call our church office at (812) 332-8900.
We'd love to have you join us, so set aside the weekend of Friday, July 6, 2007 now!
